The Restoration Begins!

"So who's buying the pizza and beer?" (L to R) Stinky, Fuzz, Safety Ed, Tiny, Doc, Rudy the Rat and Grumpy Gus settle the most important aspect of a restoration project: who's getting the refreshments!

One virtue Westenders value is being proactive.  Thus it is no surprise that they are getting started on preparations for Tour di Mari 5 about nine months in advance!  TdiM5 will feature the raffling off of a restored 1974 Vespa Super!  Those of you who were present at Tour di Mari 3: Riding Down to Brighton know how sharp a Westenders restoration is, so this will probably be a real hot item come next July!

The Westies gathered this weekend at Stinky’s shop to perform an initial survey of the scoot to determine what parts and work are going to be required.  We were quite pleased to see that the body is in remarkably good shape, and is going to require little more than surface prep to get it ready for the paint booth.  Similarly, the engine looks really good as well, but we’re going to give it a complete rebuild anyway.  Why?  We’re Westenders, and we do have a tendency to overdo things, but that could be to your advantage if you come out to Tour di Mari 5, July 20-22.  You just may ride away on a beautiful restored vintage Vespa.  Be sure to stop by this website or our FB page for updates!  And start saving your money to buy those Golden Raffle Tickets!   A portion of the proceeds will go to the Northwest Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.  Who knows?  Maybe it will be your dollars that funds the experiment that makes the discovery that leads to the breakthrough that sidelines MS for keeps!!!

The 'brain trust' (Doc, Grumpy Gus, Stinky) survey the Vespa Super's motor for restoration. Uh, Doc, is that the right guage for the job?
