Westenders gather for a group portrait during Tour di Panaficio Uno (photo: Click)

One of the strengths of the Westenders Scooter Club is that anyone can be a leader; all you need is an idea. When Click proposed a ride to visit some of Seattle's finest bakeries, he had no trouble generating interest!

We met at the Alki Bakery on a gorgeous Saturday morning. The winter has been rather mild here (thanks to El Nino?), and the day promised to be in the mid-50s. After enjoying some coffee and pastries, a large group (by winter ride standards) of 20+ scoots departed for our first destination, West Seattle's legendary Bakery Nouveau!

At Bakery Nouveau, we were met by Westender S.A.M., who works there. She gave each rider a delicious BN baguette, courtesy of the bakery! After posing for a group portrait in front of one of West Seattle's signature murals, we were off to our next destination, Essential Bakery Cafe in Madison Park. Once there, the Swarm enjoyed another round of coffee & treats, and then off to the next stop, Grand Central Bakery on Eastlake.

Each leg of the ride had been carefully planned and mapped out by Westender Click to showcase Seattle's most scenic neighborhoods and riding roads. The day's ride included a swoop through the Arboretum, the Interlaken area, as well as a good chunk of Queen Anne hill! We made a lunch stop at the Grand Central, and had called ahead to warn the staff that they were about to have nearly two dozen hungry scooties descend upon them. The staff at GCB were more than up to the challenge, and got the Swarm fed without delay!

Taking our leave of GCB, we loosened our belts and mounted our rides for the last stop, the famous Macrina bakery on Queen Anne hill. By this time, most of us probably felt if we saw one more pastry, we'd probably explode not unlike the ill-fated Mr. Creosote from "Monty Python's Meaning of Life" (warning, this video is not advised for children, the sensitive, the impressionable, or the squeamish)
At this point is was probably a good time to call it an afternoon, as it would doubtful the suspensions of our scooters could sustain another stop! Many thanks to Click for planning an excellent ride, and stand by for news of Clicks next rideout to Snoqualmie Falls!
