As you know if you've been following this website, the Westenders have been organizing a party to raise funds to help the family of Sean Goff, a restaurateur, scooterist, and fellow Westender who passed away in September. Last Saturday night, many members of the northwest scootering community and friends gathered at Rainier Yacht Club for "Operation Chano", and a great time was had by all while doing good at the same time!
One event that caused particular mirth was the unscheduled appearance of the Seattle Fire Department! It seems that we had so many pots of water boiling in the kitchen to make pasta, that an alert neighbor mistook the fogged up windows and steam escaping from the galley of the yacht club for smoke, and called the SFD!!! It was easy to see why firefighter calendars are so popular, because the crews of the two (!) fire engines that responded were a group of handsome lads that were very professional and courteous. They were very good sports as well, and gave all the children in attendance a tour of their trucks. Without a doubt the funniest scene during all this had to be Casey C., placidly sitting in his chair enjoying Mondo Scooterama, and calmly petting his lapdog Whiskey while Seattle Firefighters, Westenders, friends and guest were scurrying all around him trying to find the fire that surely must've been somewhere on the premises. Talk about 'grace under fire!'![]()
We had 50+ guests, and several clubs were well represented, including the Flying Monkeys SC, Sirens, VCOS, and the F**k Yeah SC (newer club, who along with the Firkins SC, are creating a fun and active scooter scene in Tacoma!) SC. And this was a generous lot as well! A very nice sum was raised and delivered to Cafe Revo the next day by an 'honor guard' of Westenders SC riders!![]()
The Westenders SC offers its most heartfelt thanks to all who made Operation Chano such a success. We are deeply grateful to our friends who made very generous contributions to the Sean Goff Medical Fund via our PayPal button, the individuals and business who donated a veritable treasure trove of prizes for the raffle, all the Westies who invested so much time and energy to plan and execute the event, and everyone who came to show support and dig deep to help a fellow scooterists family. You demonstrated that the Seattle scootering community is a caring and supportive community!
