Several weeks ago, an email was received by the Westender Club notifying the group of an upcoming one night only premier showing of the E.E. Casidy scooter themed award winning instant cult hit film titled "We Are The Mods".  The email originated from Keith Bacon, Lead Programmer with the 'Three Dollar Bill Cinema' organization, announcing the feature showing as part of the 2009 Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival line up, encouraging our swarm to be participants in the festivities by dressing in appropriate Mod attire and filling up the reserved parking under the Admiral Theater Marquee.

The fall weather in Seattle had been atrociously wet the week leading up to the event, but come Saturday clear blue skies prevailed with comfortable temperatures making it the perfect evening for a group scooter ride!

Over a dozen Westenders, dawned in their favorite mod outfits, rendezvoused at the club's favorite eatery, CafĂ©' Revo.   After some delightful hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, the swarm saddled up for a quick ride to the Admiral Theater via Harbor and California Avenues,  arriving almost in exact timing with  other scooterists representing SQream; Vespa Club Of Seattle; the Sirens; and the Seattle Meetup Group.

Once settled inside the theater, the group was welcomed by the scootering community favorite local celebrity, Sylvia O'Stayformore and sidekick.

After brief announcements and some silly shenaniganry the swarm was treated to a wonderful show about a young woman, Sadie, played by Melia Renee, starring in her first full length feature role.  Melia plays the role of a pretty average high school girl devoting nearly all her attention to her barely interested best friend.  So devoted is Sadie that she will (literally) eat snails to help her get into French Club.  So when the faux BFF gets into the club and (of course) doesn't have time for Sadie anymore, it's only natural that Sadie is drawn to new gal at school, Nico. Sporting a cane and dressed to the nines in the height of mod revival fashion, Nico is sophisticated, exciting, and a little dangerous. Sadie, accompanied by her ever-present 35mm camera, discovers more than just the nightlife as she and Nico become fast friends.

The complicated relationship developing between Sadie and Nico isn't the only thing that makes WE ARE THE MODS a delight to watch: there is also the gorgeous vintage Vespas and Lambrettas, the spot-on mod fashion, and a kick-ass soundtrack of new retro tunes.

As the movie wrapped up, Melia Renee who was present in the audience throughout the showing, was invited up on stage to provide a performers insight on the movie theme and characters and to answer questions from the audience.   Viewers who rode to the showing were then requested to assemble in front of the theater with their scooters under the marquee for photo opportunities with the event stars, Sylvia O'Stayformore and Melia Renee.

No word on when the film will be available on DVD but many Westenders commented that they cannot wait to own a copy for themselves - or more so, get their mitts on a copy of the movie's killa' soundtrack.  We be waiting with great anticipation for an announced release date.
