Despite the rain at Friday night's meet and greet at Big People Scooters, the weather gods were definitely on our side during the remainder of the weekend of Festering OktoberScoot. Both days saw a significant turnout, Seattle scooterists know that when they see blue sky, that it's an opportunity that they don't want to miss to come out and enjoy a sunny ride and have fun with friends.
Saturday's festivities began at Café Racer where folks enjoyed catching up over breakfast and coffee. From there, Myster Mark, our Master of Ceremonies, led us to our first stop at Fremont Brewing Company where we enjoyed a tour and tasting. From there we rode up to Queen Anne and piled into McMenamin's for samples. This was a quick stop because it was not the roomiest of places and our scooters were parked at the meters. We then headed down to Pike Pub and Brewery, where we enjoyed being able to park our scoots inside the brewery at Post Alley. This was a very entertaining tour, as our guide was very knowledgeable and animated! From Pike Place Market, we then rode to Naked City Brewery & Taphouse where they were holding the First Annual Beer Can Derby, which benefits Northwest Harvest. Contestants design and construct racecars, which must contain at least one recognizably whole and uncrushed beer can. If this is on next year's OktoberScoot itinerary, a bunch of us are inspired to enter next year's derby! After leaving Naked City, we rode up to Pike Street to the Elysian Brewing Company and ate a late lunch and enjoyed pints after a going on their tour. The Steak Frites and the Pumpkin Ale were crowd favorites here. Most called it a day here and went home to rest up for Sunday's ride. For those that remained, we gathered at the Bit Saloon in Ballard to ride up the The English Beat at the Showbox at the market. This show was a lot of fun, we sang and danced the whole night! If you missed it, this is a show to see next time they are in town!![]()
On Sunday, our day began at Café Revo in West Seattle. They offered a delicious buffet breakfast of Sausage or veggie Fritatas, herbed potatoes and a large selection of pastries & fruits. After drinking copious amounts of coffee to wake up after staying up late the night before, we rode over to Georgetown to start the brewery tour. Georgetown Brewing on Airport Way offered several different delicious brews in their tasting (we like this.) and then led us on a tour of their new facility where they were able to show off their new equipment. This was also a great tour that is highly recommended by the Westenders because was highly educational about the beer making process and we enjoyed the fun, beer-related trivia! The next stop was Schooner Exact. They will be moving to SODO from their Harbor Avenue location soon, so I'm excited to see where these guys will be at next year! Next we rode to Big Al Brewing and Tasting Room in White Center and enjoyed pints while sitting in their beer garden. Our last stop was at Two Beer Brewing, where we enjoyed pints and sat in the sun while we forgot for a few moments that is officially Fall.
To quote Two Beer's unique and appealing philosophy, is to summarize Festering OktoberScoot's popularity and success: "Drinking amazing beer certainly isn't fun by ourselves either. It is much more fun to invite some friends over, or go to a pub, and enjoy a beer in community. This also causes us to slow down just enough to remind us that we are connected to each other and that we do really enjoy hanging out with our friends. And although our life may still feel slightly out of whack we are momentarily comforted by the fact that there are people around us."![]()
