Every summer, the Vespa Club of Seattle puts on Scooter Insanity, Seattle's longest running scooter rally. This year's incarnation was a gem, a veritable Faberge Egg of a rally, chock full of fun events and rides!
Scooter Insanity 22 started with a meet & greet at The Stables in Georgetown, hosted by the lovely and gracious ladies of the Sirens Moto Club. Rally participants enjoyed hot dogs, cold beverages, popcorn and good company. They were also able to purchase Rally Packs that were bursting at the seams with goodies, featuring an official Scooter Insanity T-shirt and patch designed by the President of the Vespa Club of Seattle, James M; who's not only a chef and confectioner of great talent, but a top-notch graphic artist as well!![]()
Later, there was a group ride to The Funhouse for a rocking good time with three bands, Including the Cute Lepers!
Saturday featured a long ride to Mukeltio for lunch at the Diamond Knot Brewery. The ride was led by Westender Ralph, and a great time was had by all. Later that evening, the swarm descended on Georgetown to enjoy Artopia and a concours d' elegance judging of the finest of the scooters. The swarm rounded out the day with a ride to the Ballard Eagles lodge for music, fun and karaoke!

Sunday morning dawned bright and beautiful as the swarm met at the Krispy Kreme on First Avenue, then embarked on a very nicely laid-out and marshalled ride to Doyle's pub in Old Tacoma. There, the swarm were joined by members of two of Tacoma's finest scooter clubs, the Firken SC and the F**k Yeah SC. Everyone enjoyed a great BBQ and cold brew and watched the USA-Brazil football match on the television.
Finally, it was time to see the Amerivespa riders off. As the crowd cheered them on the riders started out on what was to be a fantastic adventure, riding scooters all the way to Los Gatos for Amerivespa, which was promised to be, as the Scooter Insanity website promised, "over 1000 miles of butt-numbing excitement". At the time of this article's writing (Friday) word was received that all the riders reached Amerivespa safely, and were getting ready to thoroughly enjoy America's national Vespa rally.
For those who remained behind, it was time to go home. The Seattle crowd was escorted to the Point Defiance ferry by the Firkins and the F-Yeahs, and they enjoyed a lovely ride up Vashon Island to the north end of the island and a quick ferry ride home.
All in all, it was a Rally to remember! Congratulations to VCOS's Eric P and the Scooter Insanity 22 Committee for putting on one of the best SI rallies in recent memory!
