Sunday's Green River ride was a huge success, as a large group of Westenders and new friends enjoyed the winding roads along the Green River, sampled delicious treats at Dairy Queen, and got some great gear at great prices at Valley Scooters!
The day began with a meetup at C&P Coffee in West Seattle. The riders enjoyed delicious pastries and coffee, courtesy of the Vespa Club of Seattle. The big surprise of the day came when GrumpyGus rolled in on his new ride. He told everyone he was going down to California on a little holiday, but what he didn't mention that one of the agenda items was to take delivery of this beautifully restored Lambretta!
By the time the group was ready to roll out, it had swollen to nearly three dozen riders! They headed out through Georgetown, and along Boeing Field, where the resident 'speed demons' tried to keep up with GrumpyGus' Lambretta. That scoot is a truly astonishing ride! Next came a fun jaunt along Monster Road, where Rudy the Rat and the Hill Gang were waiting to join in the fun. With our numbers now pushing 40 scoots, we headed through Kent to visit the Title Sponsors of Westenders Tour di Mari #2, Valley Scooters.
Clint and his staff were all ready for us, and had ample refreshments on hand for the swarm. They also offered generous discounts on both gear and scheduled service to the ride participants, and many of us took advantage of this excellent opportunity. After saying our goodbyes to Clint & Co., it was time to head off on the next leg of our journey!
Next came a relaxing meander along the Green River from Kent down to Auburn, where we then checked into the north Auburn Dairy Queen, which is owned by Rudy the Rat's brother. Everyone enjoyed the excellent selection of burgers, dogs, and of course DQ's famous ice cream treats. The folks at DQ really rolled out the welcome for us, as you can see here:
Fed and watered, it was time to make our way home to West Seattle. After a long, enjoyable ride that took us home by way of Redondo, Saltwater State Park, and Three Tree Point, we finally ended up at Westender favorite hangout Cafe Revo to enjoy their outstanding food and libations. All in all it was a great way to get the riding season in high gear. The Westenders would like to thank Valley Scooters, Dairy Queen, and all our new friends who came out to enjoy the day with us. We look forward to seeing you soon at Tour di Mari 2!
