While we had hoped our already postponed ride, 'Operation Flapjack II' would have better weather then when it was originally scheduled in March, we would never have thought it would've been this good!
The month of April had begun with snow of all things (it seems even God enjoys a good April Fool's prank!), so we were very pleasantly surprised by sunny skies and relatively warm temperatures when we went to the monthly pancake breakfast at the Swedish Cultural Center.
A large group of Westenders and friends gathered for what promised to be a great day of food, riding and fun! We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast of Swedish Pancakes with lingonberries and whipped cream and baked ham, washed down with generous quantities of fruit juice and coffee!
After breakfast, we got ready to ride! The Westenders pride themselves on well-organized and safe rides. To ensure that, we start each ride with a quick briefing to cover group riding techniques, hand signals, etc. While we're all experienced riders, we find that these briefings enhance the safety and enjoyment of all by ensuring that nothing is left to chance. This is particularly appreciated when we are joined by new friends who may not have done a lot of 'pack riding' in the past. Westender Queenie, owner of Scoot About! led todays ride, and did an excellent job briefing the riders on what they could expect!
Queenie led the group on a wonderful ride that took in many of Seattle's best points of interest. All in all, it was a wonderful time that was had by all, and a great way to finally get the riding season under way!
