After months of mouth-watering anticipation, Cafe Revo, the dream of Westenders Pinky, Chano, and Kevin, is finally a reality! Nearly a score of Westenders participated in a rideout led by Jett from the Skylark to Cafe Revo to arrive in time for their grand opening at 4pm last Saturday!
Cafe Revo has proven to be everything the owners promised it would be and then some! Westenders who have dined there report that the food is truly outstanding, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is second to none! Pinky strove to create a space that was reminiscent of the town of Revo in northern Italy were her parents came from, even to the point of altering an interior wall in the restaurant to resemble the exterior of Hotel Revo, thus creating the effect of an interior 'piazza'!
The prime minister had dinner there Sunday night, and here are his impressions:
"Cafe Revo captures perfectly the delightful contradiction that is Italy: sophisticated but not stuffy, festive yet quietly romantic as well. From the moment you walk through the door, you know you're about to experience something special. With any restaurant, it's the details that matter, and it's clear the owners and management team have left nothing to chance. At the door you are greeted by a hostess who is warm and friendly, yet has the seemingly effortless Continental sophistication of actress Claire Bloom at the height of her career. Impeccably dressed staff attend to their duties quickly, but never seem harried, and the Management keeps a discreet eye on everything, ensuring each patron's satisfaction.
The space is once again a happy contradiction: a place you feel instantly at ease in, amenable to happy large dinner parties, but with private spaces for that romantic dinner for two. And since Italian cuisine is the food of romance, it's important that the food live up to it's reputation. At Cafe Revo it does and then some!
A calamari appetizer is a delight: lightly breaded and perfectly seasoned, it is served with an light aioli. The Mrs. and I ended up leaving no survivors on the plate. Canaderli con Brodo, a dumpling soup, is a real standout! It is hearty without being overpowering, and does a wonderful job of whetting your appetite for the main event!
Tonight, that main event was an exquisite Veal Marsala: tender medallions of veal resting in a carefully prepared marsala reduction. I suggest you hold some of the velvety-perfect pasta served with it in reserve to help you wipe up every delightful dollop of this sauce!
You must save space for dessert. The tiramisu is made in house, and is simply astonishing! It is light and flavorful, and makes anything you've had before seem like a coffee-flavored brick by comparison! To finish things off, consider a cup of espresso con grappa. It's a unique combination of flavors that works wonders!
Cafe Revo has been a long time coming, but was so worth the wait. You owe it to yourself to get in here!"
The Westenders are truly blessed to have such talented restaurateurs in their company; we're looking forward to making Cafe Revo a main hangout!
