This last weekend was an incredibly busy and fun weekend for the Westenders. With the Fall weather here, you would think our activity would start to wind down, but as it turns out, we seem to be busier than ever!
On Friday night, a group of us met at Colimar restaurant in Georgetown for the 2008 Georgetown Haunted History Tour. This is an excellent event put on by the Friends of Georgetown History (FOGH). Our guide led us on a 90 minute walking tour of Georgetown, where we passed several allegedly haunted sites, and heard the lurid tales surrounding them. Some of the sites we visited included the Georgetown Playfield, where the mysterious apparition of a barefoot woman in a white dress has been seen, and the infamous Georgetown Castle (pictured).
A ghoulish gravedigger shares with us the history of turn-of-the-century Georgetown.
The walking tour ended up at Jules Mae's Saloon, where we were given small gifts by our guide, and then we were off to our next stop, the Haunted Brewery tour! The Theater Off Jackson theater company put on a really unique 'haunted house' in the old brewery, located just across the street from Jules Mae's and Big People Scooters. The old brewery is the ideal location for a haunted house, because it looks just so, well, haunted!
Once inside the dark, gloomy, cavernous old building, we were treated to ghoulish performances by TOJs actors, a macabre musical group, a sword swallower, and even a pair of acrobatic skeletons (pictured).
Ultimately, we were able to escape the haunted brewery and it's myriad specters via a precarious trip down a 4-story tall, century-old, wrought-iron spiral staircase!
Needless to say, a wonderful time was had by all, and the evening truly whetted our appetite for Saturday's adventure
