Saddle up! Westenders and friends about to depart for the R2DQ3 ride
One of the highlights of the scooting season in Seattle is without a doubt the
R2DQ (Ride to Dairy Queen), and this year's third incarnation of the ride (hence
R2DQ3) was without a doubt the best yet!
The morning started at the home of our hosts, Rudy the Rat and Mrs. Rat, where
we fortified ourselves with muffins, juice and coffee for the ride ahead. At
the appointed time, a large group of nearly thirty Westenders and friends set
out for the R2DQ3 ride. Rudy the Rat had mapped out a superb route that took
the group along the shores of Puget Sound from Three Tree Point in Burien,
through Des Moines, past Dash Point and Brown's Point, and finally along the
north shore of Commencement Bay until we turned inland to get to the Dairy Queen
that was owned by Rudy's Brother Dan and his wife, Cindy. At the DQ, Dan and
Cindy treated the group to excellent Dairy Queen ice cream treats, then the
swarm retraced their route back home to Rat Manor and the BBQ.
We had enjoyed reasonable weather until after we got back to the BBQ, and then
it started to rain. This didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the day, however, as
we enjoyed a wonderful BBQ spread that included hot dogs topped with genuine DQ
chili!
The rain forced the cancellation of the ring toss game for prizes, so we held a raffle instead. The Rats had a generous stash of prizes available, and most of the guests ended up going home with a prize! After this, a time capsule holding all kinds of scootering and Westender memorabilia was buried for discovery by future generations. One can only wonder what kind of scooters they will have then?
