Westenders in the News

 |

There's a great article about the Westenders in the West Seattle Herald by Steve Shay: It's Easy Riding for the Westenders.

"They are the Westenders Scooter Club, a practical and whimsical troupe anchored in West Seattle that operate 70-100 mile-per-gallon toys. This international fleet of Italian-made Vespas, Indian-made Stellas, Chicago-based Buddy's, and Japanese Yamaha Vino's, run lean and clean."

Hamsters On a Hillside?

Hamster Run III was a big success! Those SOB's sure know how to throw a rally!
No, these aren't hamsters on a hillside, just a few of us that rode up to the rally together via Whidbey Island taking a break at Deception Pass.

It's a Girl!

Running with the Hamsters

 |

The weekend of July 24th - 27th those 'S.O.B.'s up north will be hosting their third annual Hamster Run! This particular rally has become one of the clubs favorite annual events! Two Westender Members are coordinating separate rides up north where anyone is welcome to join. The details are as follows:

Click is leading the 'fast' run - where scoots capable of running freeway speeds is required. Meet at Fremont Coffee at 459 N. 36th Street at 10:00 am. Friday morning. Catch the 11 or 11:30 Mukelteo - Clinton ferry to Whidbey Island. Lunch in Langley Arrive in Bellingham probably around 4 pm. Total mileage will be about 130 miles.

Operation: Big Kahuna

 |

Operation Big Kahuna buttonRogerTango said, "let's have a luau on Vashon Island!" We had a perfect day for it on Sunday, and our members turned out in droves. Everybody got into the spirit, with many tropical dishes on offer (there was even Spam sushi!) and master mixologist Doc (is there anything this guy can't do?) serving up his famous Seafoam and other tasty libations.

We met at C&P Coffee, our usual meeting place, then rode down to the Fauntleroy ferry dock. While Hairy and his new Vespa S were unable to join us, Randito had a new bike to show off: a red Vespa PX 150, which he recently acquired after seeing it at Vespa Eastside during Scooter Insanity 21. "I knew this was my last chance," so he decided to go for it.

Not only did we have great weather, we had a great ride on Vashon Island. The group voted unanimously (well, except for one abstention) to take the infamous Burma Road. It was sunny, the pavement was dry, and this being the forth or fifth time for some of us, Burma Road wasn't so bad. Embrace Burma Road. Love Burma Road.

Katt, Snap and Blondie went swimming. As the sun got lower in the sky, our bellies full, we departed Dockton Beach Park. Our original plan to visit a lavender farm got scrubbed when Click, who rode ahead of the group led by Doc, reported the farm was closed and the gate locked. We took a nice, leisurely ride on Vashon Highway instead. As always, our large group got a great deal of attention from people on the street, and in their cars. You just can't help but smile when a big group of scooters goes by, right?

So many people had cameras, the Westenders Flickr group should be chock full of pictures. Everybody had such a great time, they were already talking about next year. As they said on Hawaii Five-O, be there. Aloha.

Does It Get Any Better Than This?

While Chewy relaxes, fireworks fill the sky above the Hill's home on Angle Lake. The display was spectacular and the food was fantastic too! Let's not forget to mention the great company we're always in when it's a Westenders event! Thank you to the Hill Family for hosting this lovely evening! Who wants to be next??

Recap of "Mods and Rockers V"

 |

Last weekend was one of Seattle's premier scooter events, "Mods and Rockers", sponsored by Los Gatos Gordos (probably the coolest bunch of scooterists in Seattle - admit it, fellow Westies, these folks have style! And those lords of the vintage bike, the Cretins. The good news is: when it comes to Mod, Westenders rule, the bad news...uh, can't think of any.
