The Westenders plan to take advantage of this beautiful weather and we're doing a ride tonight lead by Nero94. We will be departing from Scoot About at 6:00 PM and heading up to Golden Gardens. It will be a nice long ride and we will be stopping at Cafe Verite/Cupcake Royale to fuel up.

The ride is open to all, but please review our Ride Protocols if you plan to join us.

Hope to see you there!

We're famous!

The Westenders made a big impression at the Sustainable West Seattle Festival on May 4, many festival-goers stopping by our display to learn about scooters, the OTHER transportation alternative. We even got a mention in the West Seattle Blog!

05/16-05/19: Victoria Rally

 |

In the U.S. we have Memorial Day; the semi-official beginning of summer in Canada is Victoria Day weekend (May 16-19, 2008), which also happens to be the weekend of Victoria, B.C.'s Garden City Moustache Ride, presented by the Capital City Scooter Club. You can see the itinerary here.

Victoria being a major tourist destination, and Victoria Day weekend being a big holiday, if you wanna go you should make hotel reservations now. Tourism Victoria's Web site has information about getting there, accommodations and things to do.

Cold weather is supposed to be good for tulips. The cold helps preserve them, tulips having a rather short shelf life. Unfortunately, while it's good for the tulips, cold weather is not at all good for a long-distance scooter ride.

Maybe we won't tiptoe, but unless the weather gods conspire against us, we will head for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in and around Mount Vernon, Wash. on Sunday, April 20.

There's way too much pink and gray on the doppler radar up north, and it's too darn cold here. Let's meet @ Diva Espresso (the one at 80th & Greenwood) between 9:00 and 10:00 to discuss places to have breakfast, and ride to one of them.

Bundle up, it's COLD

All scooterists and scooters are welcome, but please review our Riding Protocols. Our ride, our rules. it's a long one, so make sure your bike is in good working order. Click here for a route map; we will take optional segments marked in green. The festival is on the way to Bellingham; we're there once we make the left turn from Conway onto Fir Island Road.

Operation Tiptoe Through the Tulips
Westenders head north to, as Tiny Tim sang, tiptoe through the tulips!

Date: Sunday, April 20, 2008
Ride Leaders: Nero 94 and... any volunteers?
Notes: This ride is 50cc and family-friendly.
The agenda:

  • 9:00 am - Leave from Diva Espresso, 80th & Greenwood in Seattle. Arrive earlier if you'd like coffee or pastries

  • Ride to the festival (fuel stop in Marysville or as needed), approximately 1 hour, 30 minutes

  • Ride around looking at tulips (a map of the tulip fields is available at the Tulip Festival Web site)

  • Late lunch/early dinner at the Farmhouse Restaurant

  • Ride home

Obviously, weather will be a major consideration. If the forecast is anything but sunny, a go/no-go message will be e-mailed by 8:00 am the day of the ride.
